DUTY, APATHY, AND PASSION--lectio six

10 minute lectio

the readings

"...I give to him my covenant of peace."
"...hold fast to what is good."
the thinking
  • What is a covenant of shalom?
  • Why is it the result of this zealous act?
  • Why does God tell Moses to announce this covenant?
  • What is meant by "good"?
  • How does one hold fast to good?
the writing
God is all about his kingdom, his rule. God's rule is the wholeness--the shalom--we crave. Doing his will is what we truly desire, for this is what we were created to be and do. But here, in this time and place, God's rule co-exists with brokenness. His kingdom is not yet consummated. Therefore, here in this time and place we must be zealous for his glory, even if this zeal is sometimes prickly.
