LIKE THE LAST LEG OF A MARATHON...

That's what the end of a semester is like. We who inhabit the academic world bear the face of one determined yet tired.

I shall finish, that is certain. It is also certain that I have a burning desire to be finished, to fall in a clump just past the tape, and rest my soul in a room temp beverage.

  2. Ah, yes, the ritual beer. That would be last Friday. It was a lovely India Pale Ale--Stone Brewery, I think--with a nice long finish.

I'm still amazed how this helps me leave and enter "academic time." I've pondered keeping up the habit even after I leave the Biola Bubble. Even as a grad student who thinks the rule is a bit over much, I can see the wisdom in such a ritual.
