unChristian: What a New Generation Really Thinks about Christianity... and Why It Matters
by David Kinnaman. Baker Books (2007), Hardcover, 256 pages

Think of these as "state-of-the-church" questions.
  • How do we portray text-centeredness?
  • How do we communicate grace and justice?
  • What do we not understand about ourselves as church?
  • What is the intended end of our actions?
  • WRAP: Are we portraying/considering means as ends?

  1. Do we portray grace and justice?

Only at "correct" times and with only "special" people

  2. From your observation, by what criteria do we usually determine the "correct" times and "special" people?

IOW, what is behind the decision (whether intentional or traditional)?

  3. The person who is in a position where they are "seen," no matter what they do, receive grace and justice.

While someone "behind the scenes" people does not receive grace and justice.

Someone who is the "norm" for Christianity receives grace and justice.

While anyone who doesn't embrace today's Evangelical Christianity does not.

  4. So, if I am hearing you correctly, there are two criteria by which the church determines when and to whom grace and justice are shown: visibility and conformity.

    Why are these criteria used?
Biblically/theologically what criteria ought to be used?
How do visibility and conformity measure up/not measure up?

  5. The reason why visibility and conformity are the norm of deciding who receives justice and grace because it makes us look good to the outside world by doing what we ought to.

    For Justice:

Christians are required and need to speak up of any injustice that is occurring in the church.

By sitting silent when we know something bad is happening or happened is wrong!

    Leviticus 19:15 (The Message)
15 "Don't pervert justice. Don't show favoritism to either the poor or the great. Judge on the basis of what is right.

    I will post more later...
