Faith takes all of me and all of us

Lessons Learned 1/23-1/28
  • Intellectual knowledge is insufficient; it must partner with experiential knowledge.
  • Christian nurture is enculturation, so it takes time and effort in community.
  • Jesus is snarky.

In the mouth and out the...well, you know (tangents)

  • Found out tonight on Undercover Boss that A.F.R. means “accidental fecal release,” a term used by lifeguards to refer to poo in a pool. I’d link to a definition, but the letters mean other things that I don’t want to link to.
  • Intestinal Flora and Obesity Needs a closer read, but makes me glad I’m having sauerkraut or kimchee for breakfast these days.
  • Market fresh: Cooking through the seasons I’m trying to do this more, but laziness gets in the way sometimes (the freezer section is such a handy thing).

Empiricism cannot grasp life’s deepest strength

We focus so intently on what can be seen, heard, felt, smelled, and tasted, yet our souls are thrown asunder by the slightest intangible agony.

Longing for face to face beyond the shadows

His people walk through culture as tourist and native, ever viewing with outsider’s eyes, yet interpreting by meanings tinged by its language, not quite home.

Insignificance is greatness in the right hands

Our smallness and relative insignificance must be recognized. Yet lowliness must be balanced with a divine purpose that calls us to partner with God himself.

Does God tire of our pain-dismissing platitudes?

Tragedies are real, their agony echoing through eternity. And, while Yahweh remains in control toward very good ends, his sovereignty should diminish tragedies’ justified sadness.

A long obedience, punctuated with whoosh

Jesus-following is a long, disciplined journey, sometimes trudging, sometimes skipping, but always aware of the goal and of the glorious dandelions sprouting through the sidewalk.

If we’re not feeling communal, something’s wrong

It is amazing that, given our real and essential connection in Christ, we often fail to experience those deep connections in our daily life together.

Shouldn’t it say, “Walkway gone?”

“Every time I read, “Door must remain closed at all times,” I simply must chuckle.

I’ve discovered the sign “Walkway closed,” has the same effect.

Does all truth belong directly to God?

We claim, “All truth is God’s truth,” but if humans truly bear his image and have creative capacity, might not some truth be our truth?
