In this very practice—lectio divina—there is danger, danger that the discipline and the possible consolations will tempt me to look to myself rather than to Christ. God forbid that this should happen.
Spiritual practices are good. They internalize the raw material that the Holy Spirit uses to re-create us and make us holy. But the spiritual practices are the pipe; they are not the water.
God, if I boast in anything, let me boast in the loving Father, the risen Son, and the indwelling Spirit. Let me boast in you.
