According to Wikipedia, the Smurfs were officially born on October 23, 1958, in the Belgian comics magazine Le Journal de Spirou. I watched the USA television cartoon when I was quite a bit younger (and, periodically, the tune invades my brain and takes a while to leave), so I thought this celebration was worth mentioning.
