The only "good" thing about street litter

Yesterday, during a break at a meeting, the topic of litter came up. I've no idea how. Anyway, I mentioned how much litter marks my neighborhood and how the only redeeming factor is the feeding of crows. Not that it's good for crows to eat litter or that this redeems the practice. Okay, I'm starting to rant, so I'll stop.

Cats--the skittish and the crier

The Skittish: this one escaped moments after this pic.

The Crier: this one sits behind me at the bus bench, crying mournfully.

Awaiting the Dragon's return

On my way to the train this morning, I passed by SpaceX (white building on the right side of the street in the pic below). I do this every weekday, so that's no biggie. But this morning was a bit different, for across the street (left side of the street) were news vans, cameras pointed at the front of SpaceX. This morning, the Dragon returns.
Glad I saw this tiny bit.

Squirrel!!

I had a visitor during my writing time this morning. Frankly, he started to get a bit too familiar, so I had to shoo him away. I think these squirrels spend too much time around Biola students. They have no healthy fear of us eaters.

Getting a bit forward...

After my best dog growl imitation

Off to other things

"Classic" world-describing structures

Each world has its classic feel, its own simplicity. My life has at least four worlds: mountains, suburbs, university, and church. Each has structures that communicate something of its heart (not the whole of it, mind you, just something).

The Mountains

Rustic wooden stairs, up the mountain side, surrounded by trees and ground cover.

White grandma house, with a classic porch, surrounded by Vinca, trees, and shrubs.

The Suburbs
The Quonset workshop, locked behind a barred gate, filled with welding gear.
Strip mall trash shed, with locked double doors.
The University
Biola's bell tower, contemporary design and original bells from the downtown tower.

The Word, by Twitchell, gracing the side of Bardwell Hall and overlooking the Student Union

The Church
The front, where some of us lead the rest in a bit over an hour of focus on God.

The stained glass windows, presenting their visual theology.

Nearly summer, yet cold enough for the fireplace. Go figure.

The weekend began with near freezing night time lows on Friday night and a nippy high in the mid-50s on Saturday. Good weather for a fire.

Thankfully, it cleared up nicely for the birthday picnic on Sunday.

Plants, glorious plants - the mountain version

It has been a good season for the flora this year. Everywhere one looked, there was green, purple, white, and a host more.

The property was in good form.

Vinca

Cherries

Spruce

Not a clue, but cool looking.

Sweet peas

Again, not a clue, but georgeous.

Grasses, captured the day before the weed whacker took them out.

Another I don't know the name of.

Vinca, just planted in March and doing well.

The side yard with Vinca, Sweet Pea, Daffodils, and more.

A tiny something growing at the base of the stairs.
And one from the walk.

Luscious greenery at the side of the road.

Blatant disregard for the rules - the fire hydrant parking version

Now, I realize the person who parked this way probably had a final to run off to, but really?

More chairs cover Metzger lawn, bleachers are in place, and the campus is being scrubbed and dressed: One more day...

Random Acts of Shakespeare

For the past week or so, quotations from Shakespeare have been showing up all over campus. I wish I'd taken pictures earlier, as this is the only one I've come across in recent days.

Art just pops up everywhere this time of year

Near the end of each term, art projects (I think) turn up on our campus. I saw these this morning on my way in. In the back is a canvas that says, "Keep calm and carry on." In the foreground are bottles suspended from a tree. Not sure what's in them. Looks like notes.
