FALL BOOKS--the required ones

Thanks to the generosity of TFB, I toddled over to the Biola Bookstore today and bought the two required books for this fall:

Discovering Biblical Equality: Complementarity Without Hierarchy
General Editors: Ronald W. Pierce and Rebecca Merrill Groothuis
528 pages
InterVarsity Press; 2nd edition (August 2005)

Women and Men in Ministry: A Complementary Perspective
General Editors: Robert L. Saucy and Judith K. TenElshof
400 pages
Moody Publishers (May 1, 2001)

a little food for thought...assuredly, there is more to come

Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth."

So God created man in his own image,
in the image of God he created him;
male and female he created them.

And God blessed them. And God said to them, "Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth."

  1. This is Doug Groothuis, husband of Rebecca Merrill Groothuis. I hope you will read her chapter in DBE very carefully; it is the strongest philosophical argument against traditionalism, but takes some intelletual effort to comprehend. Which class is it?

    Best,
    Doug

  2. Doug,

The class is Theology of Gender in Life and Ministry taught by Judy TenElshof. I will be in the ThM section.

I intend to quick read the entire book, whether assigned or not. In fact, I will likely start this week. I may be one of the few egalitarians at Talbot, so the class is likely to be very interactive and I intend to be ready. Therefore, I will be focusing on the readings in this book. I will certainly put my mind to her chapter.

    Thanks.
