BIG IDEA: The requirements to hope perfectly, be holy, and sojourn in fear are based in God's gracious salvation through Jesus Messiah's death and resurrection.
Since the blessing-worthy triune God is gracing his people, ...
- ...they are to hope perfectly (1:13-14). This hope is based in a proper understanding of God's gracious salvation and worked out obedient living.
- ...they are to be holy (1:15-16).
- ...they are to sojourn in a fear that recognizes God as both grace-giver and ultimate judge. Further, he is a judge who does not play favorites. God's people sojourn in fear because the cost of grace was the precious blood of Christ. His sacrifice makes trust and hope possible.
