BIG IDEA: The requirement to love earnestly from a pure heart naturally follows from believers' purifying their souls and God's causing them to be born again through his eternal Word.
Salvation is worked out, not only in the overall lives of God's people, but also in the relations among them. Here in 1:22-25, Peter commands his readers to love one another out of a pure heart. The heart is purified by obedience to the Word through the working of the Spirit. Love is possible because they have been born of God out of incorruptible seed and through the eternal Word.
