the tree |
the spot |
the context |
On my way to campus from the bus, I noticed an emptiness near the north end of the tennis courts. As I got closer, I saw a pile of branches where I was certain a tree once stood. A bit closer, I saw the sad truth: the tree that had looked so healthy on Friday, was actually sick (maybe root rot?) and now lay in the parking lot.
Sometimes health is only above the surface and below is sickness.
