The Sweet Spot

The sweet spot of life is at the intersection of capacities and ways of thinking, lived in the context of God's goodness.

Each of us brings to the table is set of capacities and ways of thinking and feeling about reality.

Our sets of capacities sketch out the activities through which we most effectively conduct life. There are, of course, duties at which we are less capable that we must do. We can choose to expand our capacities to include these duties or not.

Our ways of thinking and feeling about reality are less clear, being mostly hidden. Further, they can be changed only indirectly and are only accessible to us upon self-reflection.

Our sweet spot is at the intersection of capacities and ways of thinking and feeling. Now, 'sweet spot' does not signify goodness or rightness, for the sweet spot can be bad just as easily as good.

A good sweet spot forms when persons hone capacities that create God-aligned goodness outside themselves, feed their souls with that which is truly good, and practice regular self-examination, doing all this in the presence of our very good and ever merciful and gracious God.
