Wisdom. Wisdom comes from muttering the Word over and over to yourself day and night. Maybe that's the biggest hope for this year of OYB.
"Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth." Genesis 1:28 ESVHumanity--male and female--was given dominion. That's a tall order. There is no way we will pull this off without wisdom. The Tanakh (the OT) begins with this expectation.
"And being warned in a dream not to return to Herod, they departed to their own country by another way." Matthew 2:12 ESVThe magi heard God's voice and listened. Their wise choice to hear and obey gave Joseph and Mary the time they needed to escape to Egypt and save Jesus' life.
"...his delight is in the law of the LORD,The Book of Psalms begins the third section of the Tanakh. The Book of Joshua--which we'll get to April 10--is the first book of the second section of the Tanakh. Both sections begin with the command to meditate day and night. Meditating on the Word is the source of the wisdom needed to exercise our dominion and obey when we hear God's voice.
and on his law he meditates day and night." Psalm 1:2 ESV
"...To know wisdom..." Proverbs 1:2a ESVProverbs is a sort of distillation of wisdom.
I have a feeling it's going to be an awesome ride (and I use the term 'awesome' advisedly).
So it begins.
