The necessary wisdom is damaged from the start as the woman seeks wisdom in the forbidden fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. The Deceiver achieves his goal, tricks the woman who shares (what a nice wife) with her husband. We have, from the beginning, humanity has sought after wisdom, too often in the wrong places.
So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was to be desired to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate, and she also gave some to her husband who was with her, and he ate. Genesis 3:6 ESV
But when Herod died, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared in a dream to Joseph in Egypt, saying, "Rise, take the child and his mother and go to the land of Israel, for those who sought the child's life are dead." Matthew 2:19-20 ESVAs I read this passage this morning I could not help but think of that other Joseph in Egypt and how God used him to keep Israel safe from massive drought in Canaan. Here, God works through Joseph--the adoptive/step father of Jesus--to keep God's Son safe from the evil in Canaan. Joseph (in both cases) listened to the voice of God.
Now therefore, O kings, be wise;
be warned, O rulers of the earth.
Serve the LORD with fear,
and rejoice with trembling. Psalm 2:10-11 ESV
The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge;
fools despise wisdom and instruction.Proverbs 1:7 ESV
Both the Psalm and the Proverb for today highlight the necessity of wisdom and its definition: wisdom is fearing Yahweh, worshiping him, and obediently hearing him.
