Chunk: Amos 3:1-5:17
Thoughts on 5:1-17
hope held outreal hope
yet rejection
assured,
deep,
ingrained
justice
turned bitter;
righteousness
tossed like garbage
continually.
still the hopeful command:
seek and live.
yet
these chosen people,
those passed over
by the death angel
have now
earned
Yahweh's
passing through
and deep sadness
fills
prophet,
God,
and
people.
Amos 5:1-17: The certain, thorough, and lamentable punishment of the house of Israel's seeking of other worship places (other gods?) and intentional perversion of justice and righteousness ...remains reversible if Israel seeks life (Deut 30:19-20) and yet will end in pervasive mourning The lament in Amos 5 shows the emotional response of the prophet, Yahweh, and the people, placing this judgment in its relational context.
