Mauve learning community--church: Alan Roxburgh and Doug Pagitt
What follows from now on are my interpretations and responses not a play by play.
What does it mean to be church in the world? What images do we use to understand ourselves? three images have been used. the first is the attractional institution. this is the so-called mall church where we attempt to be all things to all people. the second is the anti-institution. this church has shifted from institution to agency. the third is a journeying people. this image echoes Israel as wandering exiles in the desert. this exile happens when our identity is captive to culture. God takes us out and let's us wander and relearn trust. it is life in the tension. this journeying tension is not a quick fix. it is long. it is the way it's always been. here's the question: how can we cultivate environments in which we can ask the questions without knowing the answers?
"We don't know" becomes the place where we listen in community.
